Lecture Notes Author: Cindy Zeigler Here are the Scriptures for all the lecture videos for this study. If you would like, you could print them and make notes as you listen to each lecture. This is the entire set.
A Man Called Peter
Lesson 1 Author: Cindy Zeigler This first lesson in the study gives you a bird's eye view of Peter's life -- from his being called by Jesus to be His disciple, to His being filled with the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost in 33AD, ten days after Christ's ascension.
An Initial Glimpse
Lesson 2 Author: Cindy Zeigler In Lesson Two, you will be introduced to the area and people to whom Peter addressed his two epistles. You will also see that the Apostle Paul spent a good deal of time and ministry in this same region. Then you will become familiar with the texts of I and II Peter.
The Inheritance
Lesson 3 Author: Cindy Zeigler In Lesson Three you will begin to deal with the first chapter of I Peter. Chapter one lays an important foundation upon which to build if one is to come to a correct understanding of both of Peter's epistles. This chapter deals with: -our inheritance which is reserved in heaven, -a future salvation, and -what we are to do (how we are to live) in response to knowing these things.
Growing Up with Respect to Salvation
Lesson 4 Author: Cindy Zeigler This lesson deals with our growing up in respect to a future salvation. It deals with the fact that we are being built up as living stones, and that Christ is the corner-stone. Then we see how we are to follow Christ, as our Perfect Example.
Commands for Living
Lesson 5 Author: Cindy Zeigler This lesson gets very practical! Peter speaks to wives and to husbands and explains how we are to live, especially since we are coming to understand things about our inheritance and seeing Christ as our example. Peter gives us commands by which we are to live.
Christ, Our Example
Lesson 6 Author: Cindy Zeigler Peter gives us the reason why we are to endure suffering, using Christ as our Perfect Example. Suffering always precedes glory! In this lesson, we deal with the whys and hows of suffering. This lesson may encourage anyone who is going through a tough trial, giving them more understanding of what the outcome may be.
A Blueprint for Growth, Part I
Lesson 7 Author: Cindy Zeigler With I Peter under our belts, now we will jump into II Peter. This lesson introduces us to Peter's second epistle, which was written to the same group of people as was his first epistle. In this lesson, we glimpse the changes in the historical setting of II Peter, how events had transpired that caused Peter to follow his first letter with this second one. We are also introduced to the fact that II Peter is a companion epistle to the small epistle written by Jude. The two are extremely similar to one another, and both can be (and should be) studied in light of each other. As we venture into II Peter, we begin to see how important it is to grow with respect to our future salvation.
A Blueprint for Growth, Part II
Lesson 8 Author: Cindy Zeigler Lesson Eight is really a continuation of Lesson Seven, in that it continues to deal with our growing up with respect to a future salvation. This lesson also deals with the fact that this "growing up" is important because of the coming Kingdom of Christ, wherein a Christian can receive their inheritance as a co-heir with Christ.
The Warning Against False Teachers
Lesson 9 Author: Cindy Zeigler This lesson explains the importance of guarding oneself against false teachers; and it clearly reveals what area of doctrine false teachers will attack. Without understanding these things, a Christian may not be able to discern correct teaching from false teaching.
The Judgment of False Teachers
Lesson 10 Author: Cindy Zeigler II Peter chapter two clearly lays out the judgment that awaits false teachers. (This is the portion of II Peter that coincides so closely with Jude. Both epistle deals with this judgment.) This lesson leads us into the next lesson, which clearly lays out what these false teachers mock.
Last Day Mockers
Lesson 11 Author: Cindy Zeigler "In the last days mockers will come with their mocking..." Lesson Eleven deals exactly with what the last-day mockers mock. Peter corrects their misunderstanding and wrong teaching, by dealing with how Scripture lays the foundational truth at the beginning, and that the Day of the Lord is a coming Day of Rest, just as a past day of rest took place in Genesis chapter two. Peter explains that a day is as a thousand years. This lesson deals with this future Day of Rest.
Paul’s Letters
Lesson 12 Author: Cindy Zeigler In this lesson we will see what Peter meant when he wrote that he was dealing with the same things that Paul deals with in all his letters. What was it that was on these two disciples of Jesus, that caused their ministries to revolve around these things? Even for general Bible study, it is good to have a grasp of this.
