Lecture Notes
Author: Cindy Zeigler
The LECTURE NOTES are the Scripture passages printed out for you to follow as you listen to each of the lectures that correspond to each of the lessons.

But first, you will want to listen to (or watch) the INTRO LECTURE prior to beginning your homework in Lesson One.

Laying the Foundation

Lesson 1
Author: Cindy Zeigler
As you can see, there are three lessons that lay the foundation for the study of the Book of Hebrews--Lessons One through Three. The foundation must be understood in order to see how the Book of Hebrews should be interpreted.

This first lesson deals with three main things:
1) To whom is this epistle written, and
2) The reason Jesus is compared to the angels, and
3) The first of seven OT quotes used in chapter one.

Laying the Foundation, Part II

Lesson 2
Author: Cindy Zeigler
In the first lesson we dealt with the first of the seven OT quotes used in the first chapter of this epistle. Lesson Two continues laying the foundation by looking at the original settings of a few more of the OT quotes used in chapter one. Understanding the author's inspired reasons for choosing specific OT quotes, we can begin to grasp the inspired intent of the usage of these specific OT with respect to the five warnings given throughout the remaining chapters.

Laying the Foundation, Part III

Lesson 3
Author: Cindy Zeigler
The final foundational lesson examines the final three OT quotes used in chapter one. This lesson also deals with the importance of understanding the seven days in Genesis chapters 1 and 2a. Then the final part of this lesson puts the whole foundation together.

The First Warning

Lesson 4
Author: Cindy Zeigler
The first of five warnings is found at the beginning of Hebrews chapter two. It begins with, "Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard..." because if we "neglect so great salvation" we can expect a just recompense.

Why are we to pay much closer attention?
What are we to pay much closer attention to?
What is at stake?

This lesson deals with the answers to these questions.

In Bringing Many Sons to Glory

Lesson 5
Author: Cindy Zeigler
Lesson Five deals with the second part of Hebrews chapter two. It reveals specifically what the author is writing about in his epistle (2:5). A person does not have to guess what the epistle is about. Scripture interprets itself, as God inspires His Word.

There is a coming day when Jesus will bring many sons to glory, and in that day the inhabited earth will not be subjected to angels. This lesson helps a person to understand these things.

The Second Warning, Part I

Lesson 6
Author: Cindy Zeigler
The second warning covers two chapters in Hebrews -- chapters 2 and 3. This second warning uses the Children of Israel as an example for us, so that we can learn from their mistakes.

The Second Warning, Part II

Lesson 7
Author: Cindy Zeigler
This second part of the the second warning lays out specifically what is the potential gain or loss set before us. This warning has to do with the Sabbath Day rest that is yet for the people of God.

Our High Priest

Lesson 8
Author: Cindy Zeigler
Lesson Eight begins to reveal the present work of Jesus Christ on our behalf as our High Priest, offering a cleansing of our sin with His blood on the Mercy Seat in heaven.

The High Priesthood

Lesson 9
Author: Cindy Zeigler
This lesson lays out the OT rules and regulations of the high priestly ministry. This lesson also lays out the differences between the priesthood after the order of Aaron and the priesthood after the order of Melchezidek.

The Third Warning

Lesson 10
Author: Cindy Zeigler
Lesson Ten deals with the third warning which is found in Hebrews chapter six. It also deals with the elementary things, and how we need to press on to maturity, moving from the milk of the Word to the meat of the Word.

Our Hope and Abraham’s Promises

Lesson 11
Author: Cindy Zeigler
Lesson 11 reveals with how our hope is related to the Promises given to Abraham. Understanding these promises is essential to our understanding of the hope that is set before us.

Melchizedek, King/Priest

Lesson 12
Author: Cindy Zeigler
In the coming age, Jesus will be our King/Priest after the order of Melchizekek. The ramifications of this are beyond our wildest imaginations! All of this has to do with the coming age when Jesus ascends His Own Throne, and takes rulership over the earth, which is His Own inheritance. This is something that we Christians NEED to understand, and conduct our lives according to this knowledge.

A Better Covenant

Lesson 13
Author: Cindy Zeigler
This lesson allows an individual to realize the fact that what was presented in the Old Testament is but a picture of what is being offered in the New Testament. It is interesting to see the comparisons made in the Book of Hebrews, i.e.. what was good, compared to what is better.

A grasp of these things helps us walk our walk of faith, because a grasp of these things causes us to understand what is at stake.

Fourth Warning

Lesson 14
Author: Cindy Zeigler
As you move forward in this study, you come to the fourth major warning as it is presented in the Book of Hebrews. It is found in Hebrews 10:24ff. Initially it may be difficult to see how this warning applies to Christians, but with the background we have come to understand through the previous nine and a half chapter in Hebrews, it should be no problem at this point.

Hebrews is a book that must be understood consecutively. So arriving at this point in the book, after having completed study on the previous chapters, it should be no problem to see how this warning relates to Christians.

The Reward of Faithfulness

Lesson 15
Author: Cindy Zeigler
What a wonderful encouragement Hebrews chapter eleven is, especially after studying the sterness of the fourth warning, found in the last half of chapter ten! Hebrews chapter eleven lists Old Testament saints who are commended by God for their faithful obedience. These Old Testament saints are given to us as examples of how we are to live in faithfulness! These make up a great cloud of witnesses, people whose lives we can witness, and pattern our lives after theirs.

God will never forget a person's works, which have been born out of faith! He will reward faithful obedience, to be sure!

The Fifth Warning

Lesson 16
Author: Cindy Zeigler
This lesson covers the fifth and final major warning in the Book of Hebrews. It is a warning wherein we can see Esau being used as our example of faithLESSness, and the subsequent result in his life. He wept BITTER tears.

This lesson brings us to the end of our study. Please be encouraged to remain steadfast in your desire to please the Lord in all you do!
