Biblical Survey

Introduction

Intro
The introductory portion of this Study helps you to understand your workbook a little better. Be sure to read it!
(Also you will want to be sure to print out the Appendix prior to your beginning this study.)

Lecture Notes

Lecture Notes
The LECTURE NOTES are the Scripture passages printed out for you to follow as you listen to each of the lectures that correspond to each of the lessons.

But first, you will want to listen to (or watch) the INTRO LECTURE prior to beginning your homework in Lesson One.

A Heart of Wisdom

Lesson 1
This lesson is somewhat of an introductory lesson which helps you to see how important it is to have a teachable heart when you study God's Word. In this lesson you will see Moses given as an example to us in his desire to know God more intimately.

How to Understand the Bible

Lesson 2
Lesson Two lays out how Scripture is to be viewed. Herein are some helpful tools in understanding how to properly interpret the Bible.

The Purpose of Man's Creation

Lesson 3
As you have seen from Lesson Two, the best place to begin to understand Scriptures correctly is to begin at the beginning. (I wonder if that needs to be stated?) In Lesson Three, you will see what God says about the creation of man -- just prior to creating him, and just subsequent to creating him. Very interesting!!!

The Present System of Rulership

Lesson 4
With the created purpose of man properly understood (from God's perspective)it now becomes important to understand WHY God created man for this specified purpose. In Lesson Four, you will come to understand the reason and its importance. There is a good reason for God having created man -- it has to do with the present system of rulership over the earth. Study it well!

The Progressive Call of Abraham

Lesson 5
With all of this understanding in place, we can now begin to piece the large portions of Scripture together. To begin (since this is a survey) we will peruse the promises made by God to Abraham, and begin to come into an understanding of why these promises were made. We will also begin to understand what the ramifications of these promises are for the future and how all of it relates to us!

Chosen for a Purpose

Lesson 6
Now we come to the history of the descendants to Abraham, through his son, Isaac, and Isaac's son, Jacob. We come to the place where we need to know and understand the history of Israel, and that they were, in fact, chosen for a specific purpose. (And of course, there is personal application as you come to know that they were chosen for a purpose!)

The Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms

Lesson 7
Lesson Seven gives an overview of the remainder of the Old Testament, and reveals how God dealt with His people. This lesson allows the remainder of the Old Testament to be placed in perspective of the whole scope of Scripture. (There was a 400 year period of silence between the two testaments.)

The First Coming of Christ

Lesson 8
And finally we come to the opening of the New Testament. After 400 years of silence, God begins to speak to Israel once again, sending His Son with a specific message to His people, Israel. It is interesting to study exactly what Christ's message was, and see that it is the same message that John the Baptist was sent to give, as well as the 12 disciples, then the Apostles, then the Epistle writers. Study well.

The Kingdom of the Heavens

Lesson 9
With Lesson Eight under our belt, we can now go to Lesson Nine and study exactly what the phrase "the kingdom of heaven" means. It may be the one thing that ties the entire Bible together cohesively. (But this cannot be understood properly apart from what you have learned in all the previous lessons.)

A New Nation, a New Creation, a New Man

Lesson 10
This lesson reveals why God created the 'new nation,' the 'one new man in Christ' -- the Church. It reveals the purpose of the Church, and the future of the Church.

The Book of Acts

Lesson 11
The Book of Acts is a book that is a transitional book within the New Testament. It transitions between the Gospels and the Epistles. To see this transition is crucial in understanding the purpose of the Church as opposed to the purpose of Israel.

The Full Scope of Salvation

Lesson 12
Because man is a three part being (having been created in the image and likeness of God Who is also three parts), the scope of salvation also deals with all three parts of man. This lesson clears up some common misunderstandings having to do with the free gift of God and the works of man. (Again, this lesson should not be done until the previous lessons are completed, as it is based upon previous teachings.) The next lesson fills in the details concerning works.

Works and Reward

Lesson 13
To understand the need for works in the life of a beleiver, is to make the distinctions between the free gift of salvation (based upon faith and faith alone), and the reward of the believer (based upon works emanating out of ones faith). Works has somewhat become a bad word in many Christians circles today; but a fresh look at what the Scriptures have to say about the subject will clear up many misconceptions about the value and place of works in the life of a believer.

The Book of Hebrews, Part I

Lesson 14
This lesson forms one part of a two-part overview of the Book of Hebrews. Hebrews is a book in the Bible that somewhat condenses the whole of Scripture into a mere 13 chapters. This lesson lays out the overview of this important New Testament book, as it leads into the "Hall of Faith" chapter (i.e., chapter 11).

The Book of Hebrews, Part II

Lesson 15
This is the second part of the two-part overview of the Book of Hebrews. This lesson reveals the motivating force in the lives of faithful Old Testament saints, who lived in such a way so as to "obtain a better resurrection" (Heb. 11:35).

The Judgment Seat of Christ

Lesson 16
After studying all that you have studied, now you are ready to understand the reason for Christ coming to "judge the living and the dead." This lesson emphasizes the judgment that has to do with Christians, referred to in Scripture as the Judgment Seat of Christ.

Review

Lesson 17
This is an important lesson to complete. It will cause you to go back to review all that you have studied in the past 16 weeks. Please, please be sure to do this review! Review and repition is so important to understanding.
