Ru 4:13 ¶ So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son.

We shall look today at the redemption of the inheritance as it impacts Israel.

Part Sixteen
1). Ru 4:5 Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance." 6 And the close relative said, "I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it." 7 Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel. 8 Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself." So he took off his sandal. 9 ¶ And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi. 10 "Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day."
a). We had seen last time the events taking place at the gate of the city of Bethlehem as Boaz presents the opportunity to redeem the lost inheritance to the closer relative in the presence of the inhabitants and 10 elders of the people.
b). We had seen that through no fault of his own the closer relative was unable to redeem the inheritance and marry Ruth as this would ‘ruin’ his own inheritance and so because he is unable to do that required by the Law himself he passes the right of redemption to Boaz, signified by giving Boaz his sandal.
c). And that which we had seen in the type we had found in the antitype in Revelation Chapter 5 - Re 5:1 ¶ And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?" 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. 4 So I wept much,
Ruth – Part 16 Page 2
because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. 5
But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of
Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven
seals." 6 ¶ And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four
living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had
been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God
sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right
hand of Him who sat on the throne.
The scene here is the throne room of God, the place from where the
governance of the Universe takes place, and here in the presence of the Elders,
the 4 living creatures and the heavenly host, God the Father in the antitype of
the closer relative is seen giving His Son, described as both the Lion of the
tribe of Judah and the Lamb that was slain, the 7 sealed scroll. An action which
confirms that all judgment/redemption has been given to the Son –
Joh 5:22 "For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the
And the Son will then be in a position to redeem the inheritance as His Bride
will have been revealed providing the necessary circumstances to make both
redemption and marriage possible.
Power Point – Slides 1-3
d). Back in Ruth Chapter 4 following Boaz being given the sandal there
is excitement amongst those present at the city gate concerning the
redemption of the inheritance and what will come from it - Ru 4:11 And all the
people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. The LORD
make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two
who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous
in Bethlehem. 12 "May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore
to Judah, because of the offspring which the LORD will give you from this young
e). And in the antitype in Revelation Chapter 5 there is also a jubilant
expectation over what is to follow as the Lord would begin to open the 7 seals
on the scroll – Re 5:8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living
Ruth – Part 16 Page 3
creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a
harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And
they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its
seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed them to God by Your blood Out of
every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made them kings
and priests to our God; And they shall reign on the earth. [Those previously
revealed at the Judgment Seat in Chapters 2-3]" 11 Then I looked, and I heard
the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders;
and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of
thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To
receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and
blessing!" 13 And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under
the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:
"Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And
to the Lamb, forever and ever!" 14 Then the four living creatures said, "Amen!"
And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and
And it is really no wonder that there would be such excitement and joy as this
is the moment that God’s plans and purposes have been inexorably moving
towards ever since the heavens and the earth were created ‘in beginning’. We
might imagine the euphoria of the angelic hosts as they see members of the
human race once more in the image and likeness of God; for the angelic hosts
to have witnessed first-hand the realization of the salvation they so desire to
look into - 1Pe 1:12 To them [the prophets] it was revealed that, not to
themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been
reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy
Spirit sent from heaven--things which angels desire to look into.
Those who were created a little lower than the angels are lower than the
angels no more, but are now joint-heirs with Christ, adopted as firstborn sons
and forming the Bride of Christ.
f). This scene in Chapter 5 marks the imminent beginning of the
fulfillment of Daniel’s 70th week and is a precursor to the conclusion to Man’s
Day and the ushering in of the Lord’s Day upon the earth.
Ruth – Part 16 Page 4
g). It marks the final act in the long anticipated overthrow of Satan and
his fallen angels with respect to rulership from the heavens and the
destruction of Gentile world power with respect to rulership upon the earth.
h). Here is the moment, when after such a long time, there will be only a
little over 7 years remaining until the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom
and a little over 1007 years until the new heavens and the new earth in which
righteousness will dwell.
i). This is a scene surpassed only by that which follows the redemption
of the inheritance itself, as the Bride becomes Christ’s Wife and Christ
prepares to return to the earth to destroy Gentile world power, recorded in –
Re 19:1 ¶ After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven,
saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord
our God! 2 "For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the
great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged
on her the blood of His servants shed by her." 3 Again they said, "Alleluia! Her
smoke rises up forever and ever!" 4 And the twenty-four elders and the four
living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying,
"Amen! Alleluia!" 5 ¶ Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our
God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!" 6 And I
heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters
and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God
Omnipotent reigns! 7 "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the
marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." 8 And to
her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen
is the righteous acts of the saints. 9 Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are
those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'" And he said to me,
"These are the true sayings of God."
‘These are the true sayings of God’ and we shall be blessed if we are called to
the marriage supper of the Lamb – this is as real as the ground we stand on
and as imminent as the next passing minute, which is why Peter admonishes
us - 1Pe 1:13 ¶ Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your
hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus
Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as
in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all
your conduct, 16 because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."
Ruth – Part 16 Page 5
j). And why the writer of the Book of Hebrews challenges us –
Heb 4:11 ¶ Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall
according to the same example of disobedience.
k). And why he can also state with certainty with regards to those who
diligently embrace the faith - Heb 10:39 But we are not of those who draw back
to perdition,[like Orpah] but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Heb 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken,
let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and
godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
2). And immediately following the redemption of the inheritance in Ruth
Chapter 4, with Ruth having become Boaz’s wife, the scripture takes us to the
birth of a son and a genealogy that takes us to David, Israel’s second king –
Ru 4:13 ¶ So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to
her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women said
to Naomi, "Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without a close
relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! 15 "And may he be to you a
restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who
loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him." 16 Then Naomi
took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him. 17 Also
the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "There is a son born to Naomi."
And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. 18
Now this is the genealogy of Perez: Perez begot Hezron; 19 Hezron begot Ram,
and Ram begot Amminadab; 20 Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot
Salmon; 21 Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed; 22 Obed begot Jesse, and
Jesse begot David.
a). And here in these verses in the type is given to us the consequence of
the redemption of the inheritance for Israel.
b). We will remember that for them redemption is to come through
judgment - Isa 26:8 Yes, in the way of Your judgments, O LORD, we have waited
for You; The desire of our soul is for Your name And for the remembrance of You.
9 With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will
seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the
world will learn righteousness.
Ruth – Part 16 Page 6
c). The tribulation, as we know, will be the most horrific and darkest
time in Jewish history – Mt 24:21 "For then there will be great tribulation, such
as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall
d). But just as Noah passed through the flood, the 3 Hebrew children
survived the fiery furnace, Daniel the lion’s den and Esther and Mordecai
defeated Haman there remains the certain promise of redemption –
Jer 30:7 Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of
Jacob's trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.
e). Just as Israel suffered such great persecution in Egypt causing them
to cry out to the God of their fathers who then sent Moses to deliver them, so
the events of the tribulation will be so intense that Israel, scattered amongst
the nations, will have no recourse except to cry out to the God of their fathers
once again and this time the Lord Jesus Christ, the One whom they pierced will
return to deliver them and restore their land - Eze 36:24 "For I will take you
from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your
own land. 25 ¶ "Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I
will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 "I will give
you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone
out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 "I will put My Spirit within you
and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do
them. 28 "Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall
be My people, and I will be your God.
Isa 35:1 ¶ The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the
desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; 2 It shall blossom abundantly and
rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The
excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, The
excellency of our God. 3 Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble
knees. 4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, "Be strong, do not fear! Behold,
your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come
and save you." 5 ¶ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the
deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of
the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the
Ruth – Part 16 Page 7
desert. 7 The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs
of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with
reeds and rushes. 8 A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called
the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for
others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. 9 No lion
shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found
there. But the redeemed shall walk there, 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall
return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They
shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
And here once again we see deliverance, redemption, healing and restoration,
the very things presented to us in the type in the verses we read from Ruth
Chapter 4.
f). In these verses from Ruth redemption is pictured in 3 things – firstly
through that stated about Obed, Boaz and Ruth’s son - Ru 4:14 Then the
women said to Naomi, "Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day
without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! 15 "And may he
be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age
Secondly, through that stated about Ruth - Ru 4:15b…… for your daughter-inlaw,
who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him."
And thirdly, through following Boaz’s genealogy to David the king –
Ru 4:17 Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "There is a son born
to Naomi." And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of
David.18 Now this is the genealogy of Perez: Perez begot Hezron; 19 Hezron
begot Ram, and Ram begot Amminadab; 20 Amminadab begot Nahshon, and
Nahshon begot Salmon; 21 Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed; 22 Obed
begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.
g). In the antitype the Kinsman Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, will be
present and known in the midst of the nation following the redemption and as
Obed He will be ‘famous in Israel’ - Isa 52:6 Therefore My people shall know My
name; Therefore they shall know in that day That I am He who speaks: 'Behold,
it is I.'" 7 ¶ How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings
good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who
proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
Ruth – Part 16 Page 8
h). In that day, as Obed in the type, the Lord Jesus, Israel’s Kinsman
Redeemer, will be ‘a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age’.
i). Israel at present is in the place of ‘death’ with a history that stretches
back 4000 years to Abraham, but the One who is ‘the resurrection and the life’
is going to restore life to the nation in fulfillment of that pictured through the
raising of Lazarus - Joh 11:39 Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the
sister of him who was dead, said to Him, "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for
he has been dead four days." 40 Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you
would believe you would see the glory of God?" 41 Then they took away the stone
from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and
said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 "And I know that You
always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that
they may believe that You sent Me." 43 Now when He had said these things, He
cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" 44 And he who had died came out
bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth.
Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go."
And the Lord will be the one to provide all that the nation needs nourishing
her in her ‘old age’.
k). And as Ruth loved Naomi and was better to her than ‘seven sons’, so
the Wife of Christ will demonstrate that same love towards Israel. This is the
love that the King will have towards the nation and in complete keeping with
the type, the King’s consort queen, can only demonstrate the same level of
affection. The day is coming when Israel will no longer be despised and
rejected but will be greatly loved by the King and His consort queen.
l). And finally as the Book of Ruth ends with regality and rulership
through David the king, so the antitype will see the greater Son of David
sitting on His own throne in the New Jerusalem and on His father David’s
throne in the earthly Jerusalem - 2Sa 7:12 "When your days are fulfilled and
you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from
your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 "He shall build a house for My
name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 "I will be his
Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the
rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. 15 "But My mercy shall not
depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16
Ruth – Part 16 Page 9
"And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your
throne shall be established forever."'"
Power Point – Slides 4 - 7
And that the Book of Ruth should end and the antitype should end in regality
and rulership can be no other way as this is precisely what is revealed in the
opening Chapters of Genesis and then built on throughout the rest of
scripture. The long anticipated and long awaited Millennial Kingdom, the
Messianic Era, the Age to Come, the 7th Day will be a reality, with Israel’s
Messiah dwelling in the midst of a healed nation, restored to a healed land and
occupying the preeminent position amongst the nations being God’s adopted
firstborn son, and the scriptures will be fulfilled – Ex 4:22 "Then you shall say
to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the LORD: "Israel is My son, My firstborn.
2Ch 7:14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and
pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Joe 2:25 "So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great
army which I sent among you. 26 You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, And
praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; And
My people shall never be put to shame. 27 Then you shall know that I am in the
midst of Israel: I am the LORD your God And there is no other. My people shall
never be put to shame.
Zec 8:22 Yes, many peoples and strong nations Shall come to seek the LORD of
hosts in Jerusalem, And to pray before the LORD.' 23 "Thus says the LORD of
hosts: 'In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the
sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is
with you."'"
m). We will bring this to its conclusion next time – if the Lord is willing.
