Lord Teach Us To Pray
Part Twelve
1). Mt 6:9 ¶ "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
a). We have seen in previous weeks that ‘the Kingdom’ is God’s, something that at first sight may appear very obvious as we know that God is the creator of all - Ge 1:1 ¶ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
b). But we have come to realize that the declarations, ‘Your Kingdom come’ and ‘Yours is the Kingdom’ speak to so much more than God’s creative genius, speaking also to the fulfillment of the Divine plan and purpose set in place from everlasting and played out on the stage of this one province in His universe.
c). And His perfect purpose encompasses both the heavenly and earthly realms which comprise His Kingdom within a specific timeframe of 7 Days/7000 years with His Son in the central role accompanied by many other sons who will be brought to glory - 1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
d). Eph 3:9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;
e). And all with respect to rulership within this Kingdom - Ps 2:8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'"
f). Re 2:26 "And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations-- 27 'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels' --as I also have received from My Father; 28 "and I will give him the morning star.

2). Ge 3:1 ¶ Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"
a). The original ruler of this world has always sought to retain his position through deception, a deception that focuses on changing the Word of God so that it becomes something other than the Word of God.
b). The whole present world system in which we find ourselves is under the sway of the wicked one, inseparably connected to his distortion and perversion of God’s Word – Eph 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
And there was a time when we found ourselves completely enmeshed in this world system – walking in the darkness that only leads to death –
Eph 2:1 ¶ And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 ¶ But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
c). However, through faith in our Lord’s death and shed blood we have received the ‘breath of life’, thereby becoming spiritually alive – light has shone into that which was only darkness and we have been separated from the bondage to sin in which we once lived - 2Co 4:6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
d). Col 1:12 ¶ giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
e). However, despite the transference of our allegiance we still have a sin nature and therefore the propensity to embrace the slavery of sin once again – Ro 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to

obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
f). And this of course is exactly what we saw with regards to the first generation of Israel to come out of Egypt – they looked for and longed for a return to the slavery from which they had been delivered - Nu 14:3 "Why has the LORD brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?" 4 So they said to one another, "Let us select a leader and return to Egypt."
g). And we had seen last week that this deplorable condition was brought about as a direct result of their attitude to God’s supernatural provision for their nourishment and sustenance on their journey to the land of promise – Nu 11:5 "We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; 6 "but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!" 7 Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like the color of bdellium. 8 The people went about and gathered it, ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of pastry prepared with oil.
h). And this attitude towards God’s marvelous provision was itself a direct result of the unfaithfulness they practiced through their disobedience to God’s foundational command – We will remember that which God had said to them recorded in - Ex 19:4 'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself. 5 'Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 6 'And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."
i). Now, although we would inevitably see the Law of Moses in these verses, we must remember that God had given the nation a command that predates the Law, a command then upon which all else would hinge –
Ex 12:15 'Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.
j). We must see then that it is as a direct result of not obeying His voice with respect to removing the leaven from their houses that produced the attitude of despising God’s supernatural provision for their journey, which in turn inevitably led to despising the land itself.

k). Because of their failure to do that which God had said with respect to removing the leaven the whole accountable generation was overthrown in the wilderness except Joshua and Caleb - Nu 32:11 'Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they have not wholly followed Me, 12 'except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.'
l). So what was it that distinguished Joshua and Caleb from the rest? Well, from our scripture we see that ‘they have wholly followed the Lord’, which within our present context would mean that they did remove the leaven from their house as the Lord had commanded and consequently did not despise the manna that God provided, but received it with gladness and joy and as a consequence neither Caleb nor Joshua despised the land of promise, but rather trusted wholeheartedly in the Lord – Nu 14:7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: "The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 "If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, 'a land which flows with milk and honey.' 9 "Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."
3). 1Co 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 7 ¶ Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
a). Now God has provided for us the spiritual nourishment that we need to sustain us on our pilgrim journey – it is the breath of life, this time presented through a different metaphor as ‘the bread from heaven’ – it is of course the Word of God – the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
b). And at the moment of our eternal salvation God’s expectation of us through His commandment is that we should remove the leaven from our house, that we should keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread by putting sin out of our lives at the same time eating the unleavened bread God has provided.
c). This is equivalent to the command we see in James –
Jas 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, [put the leaven out of your house] and receive with meekness the implanted word[the

unleavened bread], which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
And that which we see in - Ro 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit [the unleavened bread] you put to death the deeds of the body, [put the leaven out of your house] you will live.
Which is the very thing our Lord spoke of in - Mt 16:24 ¶ Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, [put the leaven out of your house] and take up his cross, and follow Me [the One who is the Bread from Heaven].
And - Mr 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized [dies to self – put’s out the leaven] will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
d). And if we go back to James for a moment we can see the importance of putting the leaven out of our house as not doing so would have a direct and detrimental effect on how we would relate to the Word of God – Just what we saw with Israel in the wilderness – being hearers but not doers of the Word.
e). In fact we can say with certainty that not dealing with the leaven in our present context must of necessity result in our despising the Word, leading to our changing the Word of God for our own ends, which will have the same catastrophic result as we saw with that First generation of Israel. As it is in the type, so it must be in the antitype.
f). And this will account for what we read in - 2Ti 4:2 Preach the word [the unleavened bread]! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching [this would have to do with the message of putting the leaven out of the house]. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, [there is nothing except this manna before our eyes] but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears,[we remember the cucumbers, the leeks and the garlic] they will heap up for themselves teachers;[let us select a leader and return to Egypt] 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth,[ ground it on millstones or beat it in the mortar, cooked it in pans, and made cakes of it] and be turned aside to fables.
g). And at the very root of this, as we saw last week is the serpent who finds that place of familiarity in our old man to introduce the lie, ‘did God indeed say…?’ –2Co 4:3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

4). Mt 13:33 Another parable He spoke to them: "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened."
a). It is not coincidence that the Lord demonstrates the total corruption of the Word of truth, that which He calls, ‘the word of the Kingdom’ through using the metaphor of leaven. The Word of truth over the course of this dispensation has become ‘all leavened’ as the eternally saved, rather than putting the leaven out of their house, have taken their leaven to the Word, the unleavened bread, and subsequently changed the Word by adding their leaven to it in order that it would accommodate their fleshly desires thereby making it acceptable within a worldly setting.
b). What we see taking place in Christendom is a direct parallel to that which happened with the first generation of Israel and for exactly the same reasons.
c). Now the thing is once the Word of God is changed, for whatever reason, it ceases to be THE Word of God. That which Israel ate in the wilderness approximated the manna God had given them, but it was no longer that which God gave, having been changed, therefore it no longer had the power to nourish and sustain and without nourishment and sustenance there could only have been one outcome – death with respect to the fulfillment of their calling, and the same has to be true for us.
d). Ps 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.
Ps 138:2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
Just these 2 examples alone show the incredible significance of God’s word, and the seriousness with which He takes it – His Word is not something to be tampered with, but revered and feared – and we must recognize that this seriousness must include not only the content but also the way in which God has given His Word to us.
e). The infinite God has made His revelation known to us in a particular way – through history, prophecy, types/antitypes, metaphors, figurative language etc. And for finite man to make changes to this, including refusing to recognize the way God has made His revelation known can only lead to disaster - Re 22:18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the

words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
f). And so it is this complete, pure, unadulterated, unleavened Word that we are to receive with meekness, and this complete, pure, unadulterated, unleavened Word alone that can save our souls through the process of the metamorphosis – providing for us the power of God by which we can keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread throughout the course of our Christian life –
Ro 1:16 ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
1Pe 2:1 ¶ Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby[with respect to salvation], 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
5). 1Co 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
a). The message of the cross is the message of dying to self, of taking up our cross and following Him and in this message, which is ‘pure words’, is the power of God to bring about the salvation of the soul - 1Jo 3:3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
b). And so in order for us to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread the sin in our life is to be dealt with in a twofold manner, neither of which can be done apart from the power of God which we get through eating the unleavened bread – firstly we are to do that seen in – 1Th 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil.
Now let’s understand from the outset that this verse does not tell us we are to live a life above sin – such a thing would be quite impossible because of our sin nature – Ro 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned
c). It was not possible for Israel in the wilderness to live above sin, hence the Levitical Priesthood and neither is it possible for us, hence Christ’s High Priestly ministry – which brings us to the second way we are to deal with our sin in keeping the Feast –1Jo 1:8 ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse[continue to cleanse] us from all unrighteousness.
d). So then we are to ‘abstain from every form of evil’, something which cannot be done in our flesh, but only through the Spirit; something that is only

possible if our spirit man is properly nourished and continually sustained through the Word.
e). And then, when we are overtaken by evil we are to confess our sin to our High Priest, who on the basis of His shed blood, continues to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
f). In this twofold manner then, through our faithful obedience, the leaven is either to be put out or kept out of our life – and if this is our continual, faithful practice then we will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread and we will find ourselves in the antitype of Caleb and Joshua –
1Pe 2:7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," 8 and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. 11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
g). His and His alone is the power that makes this possible and His power is only present in the pure milk of the word that is magnified above all His name, exactly in the way that He gave it – it cannot be found in the processed, packaged, diluted forms that are so readily available to tempt us from the truth.
h). The very absence of the power of God, because of the changes to His Word, in the lives of so many Christians is the reason why a counterfeit power which is external only is so readily provided by our enemy and readily embraced by those desperate for it. But in the end this will be shown to be just smoke and mirrors, the sleight of hand of the master manipulator leading only to death for those who are seduced by it.
i). Once again then we come to a place we have visited so many times – the Word of God is God, the Word of God contains the power of God – there is nothing more crucial nor more vital in our seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness than the Holy Scriptures - Ps 119:2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart! 3 They also do no iniquity; They walk in His ways.
j). And the enemy of our soul will do everything to try to keep us from these unleavened scriptures by appealing to our natural senses, appealing to

our fleshly desires and tempting us with the pseudo-spiritual ‘krispy-kreme’ that looks good and tastes good and has the appearance of making us wise but has nothing that can sustain life.
6). So then, to recap for a moment – because the Kingdom is His, God has chosen to administer it in conjunction with His chosen people, Israel, upon the earth and through His Son and His Son’s companions from the heavens during the 7th Day.
a). He and He alone has made this possible by providing complete redemption for all 3 parts of fallen Man – body, soul and spirit and as part of this process to complete redemption the eternally saved are to put the leaven out of their house, eating only unleavened bread, for a complete period of time – the whole of their pilgrim journey.
b). And the leaven can only be put out of our house through His power –
Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power,
Our Lord Jesus holds all things together and in their proper relationship to each other by His own power whether in the physical world or with respect to our salvation, past, present and future.
c). He does then ‘uphold’ His Kingdom by ‘the word of His power’ and it is ‘the word of His power’ alone, working in us, that can train us and teach us and change us to be firstborn sons to rule with Him in His Kingdom – And it is embracing this process, humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God that enables us to run our race and fight our enemy in the way that will lead to victory - 1Co 9:24 ¶ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
d) And at the end of this process to spiritual maturity, that which we know as the metamorphosis, with His Kingdom in view, we will find the third part of the triad seen in the second half of Matthew 6:13 – [Yours is] the kingdom, [Yours is the power] and [Yours is] the glory – that which has changed on the inside will now bring about a very visible change on the outside.

e). It is His glory shared with those found faithful at the Judgment Seat that restores the faithful to the image and likeness of God as they stand upon the cusp of the 6th day ready to enter the 7th Day in fulfillment of God’s purpose ordained before the ages.
f). It is the glory that signifies the adoption as a first born son and the redemption of the body - Ro 8:23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
g). Joh 17:5 "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
h). 1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,
i). 1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
7). ‘His glory’, however, will have to wait until next time – if the Lord is willing.
