Heb 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.

Today we will bring the prophetic significance of these verses to their conclusion.

The Letter to the Hebrews
Part Fifty Nine
1). Heb 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. 31 By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.
a). Our three verses here all provide for us types having to do with events surrounding the total destruction of Gentile world power in that future day at the conclusion of the Great Tribulation.
b). What we would see from the type of the Red Sea incident is that Israel had been delivered from Egypt, having kept the Passover, had been resurrected to newness of life on the eastern bank of the Red Sea and was under the leadership of Moses when the Egyptians ?were drowned?.
c). From the type seen in Jericho we see Israel in the land covenanted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob under the leadership of Joshua when ?the walls of Jericho fell down?.
d). What these teach us is that the destruction of Gentile world power under Antichrist, at the conclusion of the Great Tribulation, will take place after Israel has experienced their national conversion, Passover, amongst the nations upon Christ?s return to the earth, after they have been re-gathered from amongst those nations and after they have returned to the land covenanted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob under Christ?s leadership.
e). The type seen in Rahab deals with the Gentiles and salvation during the Great Tribulation, and this we will come back to.
f). We might also remember from our study of the 10 plagues in Egypt following Moses? return that the kingdom of Pharaoh was in a state of total ruin preceding the total destruction of his power and as in the type, so this would also have to be true in the antitype with respect to the kingdom of Antichrist.
2). Now with regards to the devastation of the kingdom of Antichrist we will remember that the beginning of his kingdom is founded upon the illusion of peace. Having made a covenant with many in Israel thereby implementing what appears to be a solution to the age old problems in the Middle East he
2
then begins to establish himself as a world ruler ? a process that is figuratively described in - Re 6:1 ? Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, "Come and see." 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
a). But we know that this peaceable perception is just a deception ?
Da 11:21 ? "And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue. [This is a word that has do with being smooth of tongue and slippery]
b). This pretense continues for 3 ? years until worldwide dominion has been established ? this is the 4th kingdom seen in Daniel?s image - and once accomplished the true nature of his intent is revealed - Re 6:4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.
c). In the actions of Antichrist in connection with the ?fiery, red horse? we see the fulfillment of ? Da 9:27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
2Th 2:3 ? Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?
Da 8:23 "And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes. 24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people. 25 "Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without human means.
d). The consequence of Antichrist?s action is spoken of by the Lord in ?
Lu 21:20 ? "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 "Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. 22 "For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those
3
who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 "And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
e). The aim of Antichrist, the rider on the fiery, red horse is plain, previously laid out for us in - Ps 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us."
f). And in - Ps 83:2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more."
g). The very same intent that we saw when we studied the Book of Esther - Es 3:8 Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, "There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people's, and they do not keep the king's laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain. 9 "If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work, to bring it into the king's treasuries." 10 So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews. 11 And the king said to Haman, "The money and the people are given to you, to do with them as seems good to you."????.13 And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day,
h). Now, with respect to the attempted annihilation of the Jews, God had already told Abraham in ? Ge 12:3a I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you;
i). And again with regards to Pharaoh?s actions against Israel in Egypt - Ge 15:13 Then He said to Abram: "Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 "And also the nation whom they serve I will judge;
j). And this to Moses because of the actions of the Amalekites ?
Ex 17:14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven."
k). Simply put then, any nation that raises its hand against Israel, even if that nation is fulfilling God?s purpose, will find itself under a severe judgment
4
? the moment Antichrist and his kingdom come against Israel, the end of the matter must already be determined.
l). If we want an example we need only consider Hitler and the Third Reich. As a result of their attempt to exterminate the Jews the nation of Germany and indeed much of Europe was left in a state of total devastation at the end of WW II. With regards to the kingdom of Antichrist, rather than just Europe, it will be the whole world that will be left devastated ? Let?s remember that which God spoke through Daniel to Nebuchadnezzar, who himself foreshadows Antichrist, - Da 2:34 "You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 35 "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found.
This is all pretty clear.
3). The complete panorama of the judgment upon Antichrist?s kingdom, in the antitype of the 10 plagues in Egypt, can be seen in the opening of the first 4 seals of the 7 sealed scroll in Revelation ?Re 6:1 ? Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, "Come and see." 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. 3 ? When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, "Come and see." 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. 5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come and see." So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine." 7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, "Come and see." 8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.
a). That which we see here pictured through the 4 horses and their rider provide the foundational framework for the events seen in the opening of the 5th, 6th and 7th seals and the 7 trumpet and 7 bowl or vial judgments.
b). As a result of the rider on the fiery red horse being given ?a great sword? and taking ?peace from the earth? so that ?people should kill one
5
another?, the earth finds itself subject to a terrible famine ? this is what is then pictured in the black horse that follows the red. Not only then would we see the earth gripped in a famine but - Re 13:16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
c). Not only is there a worldwide famine, but Antichrist exercises complete control over the sale and the purchase of what food there is.
d). Then as a result of peace being taken from the earth and people killing one another, and as a result of the famine that follows we see the forth horse, a pale horse And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. Putting this altogether we see one fourth of the earth?s population dying during this 3 ? year period as the judgment of God, bringing about the redemption of the inheritance and the devastation of Antichrist?s kingdom, is visited upon the earth.
e). The breaking of the first four seals on the seven sealed scroll then provide in a foundational form the complete 7 years of the Tribulation, along with events that immediately follow at the time of Christ?s return.
f). The breaking of the 5th and 6th seal add to this picture by presenting a commentary, in summary form, of that which ultimately takes place because of that which is shown by the 4 horses and their rider.
g). The breaking of the 5th seal presents this summary from a ?heavenly? perspective - Re 6:9 ? When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
h). The breaking of the 6th seal then presents this summary from an ?earthly? perspective - Re 6:12 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on
6
the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 "For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"
i). The breaking of the 7th seal, the last seal on the scroll, reveals the 7 trumpet judgments and ultimately the 7 bowl or vial judgments, and these provide details and give commentary on that which has previously been seen in the 4 horses and their rider and the breaking of the 5th and 6th seal.
j). And it is of course during this timeframe, the last 3 ? years of the Tribulation, that Israel, in the antitype of the brick yards of Egypt, will be brought to such a desperate condition out amongst the nations, that they will cry out to the God of their fathers in fulfillment of - 2Ch 7:13 "When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
4). We had noted that the 10 plagues that came upon the kingdom of the Assyrian in Egypt in Moses? day typified the complete judgment of God upon that kingdom, 10 being a number of completion.
a). Within the antitype, God?s judgment on the kingdom of the future Assyrian, is presented through 3 sets of 7 ? 7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 bowls/vials. 7 of course is God?s number of completion and 3 shows Divine perfection and so we are looking at the complete, Divinely perfect Judgment of God in this future day, which brings about a complete, and Divinely perfect, devastation of Antichrist?s kingdom ? and so it must be as it is through this perfect judgment that the inheritance is redeemed.
b). So, to repeat where we were earlier ? the plagues in Egypt occurred immediately before Moses led the people out of Egypt for the purpose of realizing their inheritance in the land covenanted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God?s firstborn son.
c). And the judgments which these plagues typify will fall upon the kingdom of the future Assyrian immediately before the One greater than Moses leads the people out from a worldwide dispersion for the purpose of realizing their inheritance in the land covenanted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God?s firstborn son.
5). Within history, in Egypt, the kingdom of the Assyrian Pharaoh was in utter ruin as a result of the 10 plagues, and yet despite this devastation the scripture records - Ex 14:5 Now it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the
7
people; and they said, "Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?" 6 So he made ready his chariot and took his people with him. 7 Also, he took six hundred choice chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt with captains over every one of them.
a). There is then one last desperate attempt by Pharaoh to prevent God?s firstborn son from holding the scepter of rulership.
b). And even though the kingdom of Antichrist will be in utter ruin as a result of the judgments of God there will be one last desperate attempt to stop God?s firstborn Sons, Israel and Christ from doing the same.
c). This is exactly what we saw described earlier in Psalm 83.
d). Just as Satan has sought to use the Gentile nations throughout history to accomplish his murderous purpose so he will use all the Gentile nations of the world in an attempt to accomplish this same purpose immediately before his dethronement as the nations gather themselves together against Christ and Israel at Jerusalem - Re 19:19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
e). But the end has been declared from the beginning - Ps 2:4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: 6 "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." 7 ? "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.
f). The end is certain - Re 19:11 ? Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. 17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 "that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great."
8
g). Isa 63:1 ? Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength? -"I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save."
2 Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress? 3 "I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes. 4 For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come. 5 I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me. 6 I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth."
h). Re 14:14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, "Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe." 16 So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. 17 Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, "Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe." 19 So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses' bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.
i). Joe 3:1 ? "For behold, in those days and at that time, When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land. 3 They have cast lots for My people, Have given a boy as payment for a harlot, And sold a girl for wine, that they may drink. 4 "Indeed, what have you to do with Me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? Will you retaliate against Me? But if you retaliate against Me, Swiftly and speedily I will return your retaliation upon your own head; 5 Because you have taken My silver and My gold, And have carried into your temples My prized possessions. 6 Also the people of Judah and the people of Jerusalem You have sold to the Greeks, That you may remove them far from their borders. 7 "Behold, I will raise them Out of the place to which you
9
have sold them, And will return your retaliation upon your own head. 8 I will sell your sons and your daughters Into the hand of the people of Judah, And they will sell them to the Sabeans, To a people far off; For the LORD has spoken." 9 ? Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty men, Let all the men of war draw near, Let them come up. 10 Beat your plowshares into swords And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, 'I am strong.'" 11 Assemble and come, all you nations, And gather together all around. Cause Your mighty ones to go down there, O LORD. 12 "Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. 13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; For the winepress is full, The vats overflow-For their wickedness is great." 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and moon will grow dark, And the stars will diminish their brightness. 16 The LORD also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the LORD will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel.
j). Here then, in its fullness, is the antitype of the Egyptians dead on the sea shore and the walls of Jericho falling down ? here then is the battle of Armageddon ? the end of Man?s Day - Re 19:20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
k). Following this battle [which is no battle really] God?s firstborn Sons will exercise their rightful positions of power and authority on and over the earth ? God?s firstborn son, Israel, will be the preeminent nation on the earth, holding the scepter previously held by the Gentile nations ? God?s firstborn son, the Church, will exercise power over the nations from the heavens, holding the scepter previously held by angels ruling under Satan ? And God?s Firstborn Son, Jesus, will exercise authority over all things from His own throne in the heavens and His father David?s throne on the earth, holding the scepter previously held by Satan.
l). In this way the present age will end and the age to come will begin and that set out in Genesis 1 will be brought to fulfillment - Ge 1:26 ? Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him;
10
male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
