Message NotesIn our study we have seen that the purpose for our creation is the same as the purpose for our redemption. The purposes are one in the same. The whole thing has to do with replacing Satan and his angles in their positions as rulers over the world, when Jesus and His co-heirs rule in the coming kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As we have seen through out these 4 weeks of study, THERE IS A KINGDOM AT STAKE.
And that we have three enemies which work against our fulfilling our purpose:
? The devil
? The flesh
? The world.
At the very beginning of God?s Word (in Genesis chapter three) we have seen how the devil will work at this? he will
? question God?s specifically stated Word,
? seek to draw us into questioning it,
? so that we might misquote the Word, or misunderstand the Word, and thereby change the Word to make it say something it does not say!
And then will seek to draw out our flesh to work in accord with his purpose.
And once that is all in place, the enemy of God and of our soul, will deceive us, in the very area concerning the purpose of our creation and of our redemption bringing us to a place of unbelief, so that then we would act out of cord with God?s Word and His intended purpose for us, thus disqualifying us from ruling as a co-heir.
This is Scripturally illustrated for us at the very beginning of God?s inspired Word:
In the garden, when he deceived the woman, bringing about her fall as well as the man?s fall, through questioning God?s Word, and through questioning God?s intentions for your best!
God clearly speaks His Word: ?Do not eat? For in the day that you eat from it, you shall surely die!?
Any questions about that?
Can it be made any clearer than that?
But the serpent questioned the Word of God? ?Indeed, has God said???
Then he questioned God?s BEST intentions for them??For He knows that ?, then you will be like Him??
Then, with God?s best intentions questioned? The woman then misspoke the Word
And now the door is open. Now the way to deception is clear. And the purpose for this scheme of Satan is so that an individual might not believe God?s explicit Word.
?You will surely NOT DIE!?
Death means SEPARATION. When referring to man, it never means ?ceasing to exist?. Man has been created an eternal being.
And with the deception in place, it is following by action in accord with belief!
Do you know that that is true?
A person ACTS in accord to what they believe.
And a person believes what they want to believe, regardless of the TRUTH.
Listen to these words!
Let us remember what happened in the Garden, once the deception took place:
6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
And because of the fact that God?s Word is true, and He does not change His mind, the separation immediately took place. They died at that very moment.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.
They had been created with the covering of Glory, having been made in the image and likeness of God ? they were naked but not ashamed; as they awaited their outer garments ? garments of regality, which would have been theirs had they passed the test. The test of obedience.
Instead, the woman was deceived, she gave to her husband and he ate, and they died!
Satan lies! God tells the truth.
James speaks well about these things. The warning is for us today, to be sure.
Look at what James says:
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials?
?WHEN? you encounter various trials?? Are we going to encounter various trials? These are TESTS which come our way, for our GOOD, not for our BAD.
?Various? means a number of trials, not just one. And on a variety of fronts?right?
But why? Why would a GOOD God allow trials to come our way? There is a good reason:
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
7 For let not that man expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
Sin, fully accomplished, brings forth death.
Do you believe it?
Death is separation.
But what does that mean to you and me?
The clearest way I know of explaining what death would be to you (or to me) is this:
? What God has created you for;
? What God has redeemed you for;
? What He has gifted you , and
? Tested you for, and
? Given you everything necessary for?
Would absolutely not be accomplished!
You (or I) would not be able to participate in the Coming Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. We would be separated from Christ and His glory during the entire coming age. We would be in the outer darkness with respect to the Wedding Feast, and we would weep and gnash teeth with the others who didn?t believe and therefore were disobedient, or who did believe, but chose to act disobediently.
And we will have no excuse. (Rom.1:18-20)
And whether or not you think it is a big deal now, based upon the Spirit-breathed Word of God (God doesn?t change His mind and He cannot lie), you (or I) would suffer remorse to an extent that we would be inconsolable for 1,000 years.
1. As with Adam And Eve, you will be shamefully naked.
2. As with Esau, you will cry out with an exceeding great cry, asking ?Bless me,even me! Father, have you only one blessing??
3. As with the Children of Israel, you will be turned away from the land of your inheritance, and even though at that time you will desire it, it will be too late; you will have fallen short of the rest.
4. As with Saul, your crown will be taken away from you and given to another.
So what are we to do to guard against such a loss?
First put on the full armor of God. Read what Paul said in Ephesians chapter six:
11 Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
As you learned this week in your homework, it really is a heart issue, isn?t it? With the knowledge and understanding that God?s Word (is just that? IT IS GOD?S WORD ? He breathed it!) affords us, we can PROFIT by it, through allowing it to reprove, correct and train us in right living. Now we must obey it! We must allow the Holy Spirit to have His way in our lives!
And for the benefit of God?s people back in Paul and Timothy?s day, after Paul telling Timothy that God?s Word is inspired and profitable, Paul says:
Then Paul says of himself:
II Timothy 4
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
Would you like to be able to say the same thing as Paul said? If so, it seems logical that you would also have to have the same attitude as Paul had earlier in his ministry when he wrote his first letter to the Church at Corinth:
I Corinthians 9
26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27 but I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.
He KNEW the goal! He KNEW what he needed to do. He KNEW what the outcome would be, if he didn?t do KNOW these things.
And so, years later, when it came to the end of his ministry, at a time when, in his writing to Timothy in his second letter, he KNEW that his life was near the end, he could say that he had:
? Fought the good fight
? Finished the course
? Kept the faith!
He knew what fighting the good fight meant! It meant suffering hardship! He had just mentioned to Timothy that he would need to:
II Timothy 2
3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.
Paul knew what finishing the course would take!
5 And also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.
He had also written in his letter to the Philippians:
12?but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do:
forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Paul knew what it would take to keep the faith! It would take patient endurance and very much work!!! THE faith would have to do with KNOWING and believing what God says about these things. And ACTING in accord with TRUTH?because a person acts according to the way they choose to believe.
Here are a few of the comments Paul writes about hard work and patient endurance:
II Corinthians 9
6 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.
And in his letter to the Galatians:
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary.
10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
Back to what he said to Timothy:
II Timothy 2
6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
And in fighting the good fight, in finishing the course, in keeping the faith, Paul KNOWS that there is a crown stored up for him?AND for anyone who LOVES HIS APPEARING!
It is the crown of Righteousness?
Jesus told His disciples what it would take:
4 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life (soul) shall lose it; but whoever loses his life (soul) for My sake shall find it.
26 "For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul (life) Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul (life)?
27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and WILL THEN RECOMPENSE EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.
It is that ?preaching of the cross?, isn?t it? Look at what Paul said to the Church at Corinth right at the beginning of his first letter to them:
I Corinthians 1
18 For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
It is just what Jesus told His disciples that it would take their own taking up the cross in order to become His disciple. Luke records the same message given by Jesus:
26 "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to finish.'
31 Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and take counsel whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks terms of peace.
33 So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.
II Timothy 2:11-13
It is a trustworthy statement:
? For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him;
? If we endure, we shall also reign with Him;
? If we deny Him, He also will deny us;
? If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself.
But how do you do it?
Isn?t that the life-changing question? JUST HOW DO YOU DO IT?
One thing is sure, we cannot do it by the flesh! It must be that mysterious work of the Holy Spirit that is ALLOWED to be done in you because you have availed yourself to the WORD of God. (Jesus is the Word, isn?t He?)
We have already seen this passage, but let?s look at it again, and notice something that perhaps we have missed before now.
5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- 13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
But what about our enemy, the devil? What is his scheme? What area of doctrine does he scheme against?
Look at what Paul says:
II Corinthians 11
2 For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.
3 But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.
What was Satan?s deception to Eve? Was it not the same deception he has been using throughout all of mankind?s history from the very beginning? And it all has within its scope of scheme to lose the right to become the Bride of Christ. Because Christ MUST have a Wife at His side in order to rule.
You shall surely not die!
II Corinthians 6
1 And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain-- 2 for He says, "AT THE ACCEPTABLE TIME I LISTENED TO YOU, AND ON THE DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU"; behold, now is "THE ACCEPTABLE TIME," behold, now is "THE DAY OF SALVATION"--
How to do it??? Read a little further down in II Corinthians 6
14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
?17 "Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE," says the Lord. "AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you.
II Corinthians 7
1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
? 8 For though I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it--for I see that that letter caused you sorrow, though only for a while?
9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, in order that you might not suffer loss in anything through us.
10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
How do you do it???
By doing what you can do so as not to be deceived! How is that?
By knowing God?s Word thoroughly and studying carefully and diligently.
By not doing the things that please you (your flesh) but by striving to please God. By not fulfilling the desires of the flesh which immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which Paul forewarn us, saying that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But instead exercising the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Paul goes on to say in Galatians that:
24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
I Corinthians 6
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
I John 2
21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
Do you know whay anyone would shrink back at His comeing (JSOC)?
It is because they will be found shamefully naked ? not covered in GLORY, and not prepared to receive outer garments of Splendor and Majesty?unprepared and not able to rule with Christ!
26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.
30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY." And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
37 FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. 38 BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.
39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul. 1 ? Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
25 See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less shall we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven. 26 And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, "YET ONCE MORE I WILL SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO THE HEAVEN."
27 And this expression, "Yet once more," denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, in order that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire.
